Snake Control and Removal
As the Georgia summer gets hotter, so do our phone lines as more and more people call for snake removal services. Snakes are reptiles belonging to the taxonomical suborder Serpentes. They are found in most parts of the world, but like cold-blooded animals in general, snakes are especially common in warm climates like that of Georgia.
Snakes of GeorgiaThere are approximately 40 species of snakes commonly found in Georgia. But only six of these snakes are venomous:
(Venomous snake photos above are courtesy of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service). Although most Georgia snakes are not venomous, many snakes have similar coloration, and non-professionals often have a hard time telling snakes apart. For this reason -- and because of the obvious risks associated with handling even non-venomous snakes -- untrained people should never attempt to trap or remove snakes themselves. Call us instead. We know how to tell venomous snakes from harmless ones, and we have the know-how to safely remove any kind of snakes from your property.
When is Snake Control Necessary? With non-venomous snakes, a lot of the answer depends on your feelings about snakes. Most snakes are beneficial animals. All snakes are carnivores, and many species eat rats, mice, and other rodents that transmit disease and cause agricultural damage. So some people don't mind sharing their gardens with a few non-venomous snakes because the snakes help keep rodents and other destructive pests away. But other people are deathly afraid of snakes and just want them exterminated, no matter whether they are venomous or not. And of course, no one (well, not too most people, anyway) want snakes slithering around in their basements, living rooms, or bedrooms. No worries. If you have venomous snakes in your basement or elsewhere in your home or property, we can remove them. And if having even a few non-poisonous snakes in your garden creeps you out, we can safely and humanely remove them and release them far from your home, where they won't bother you again. The snakes may be a bit insulted, but they'll get over it.
Venomous Snake Control in GeorgiaVenomous ("poisonous") snakes, of course, must be removed when they get too close to human-occupied buildings, farms, or recreation areas. The bites of venomous snakes can be fatal to humans, domestic animals, and livestock. Trapping venomous snakes is a job for professionals. At Rid-A-Critter, all of our animal control technicians have advanced training in snake control. In fact, we're Georgia's leader in professional snake control. We provide poisonous snake removal in Atlanta, Athens, Columbus, Macon, Roswell, and all of Northern and Central Georgia. Here are some pictures of snakes we've met over the years, as well as some of the non-toxic, environmentally-friendly snake control and snake removal methods that our animal control technicians use.
