A lot of people think raccoons are cute. And admittedly, they're handsome animals, with those little masks and ringed tails.
But raccoons have a darker side.
Wild raccoons are very strong, very unfriendly, and very dangerous when cornered. And like other urban wildlife in Atlanta and North Central Georgia, raccoons are also capable of transmitting serious illnesses. They are susceptible to rabies, mange, and many other parasitic and arboviral diseases.
In addition to public health considerations, raccoon control is also important because raccoons are capable of doing damage to homes and property, and because they may attack people and pets when they are accidentally cornered.
Raccoons are especially dangerous to children. Young children may think wild raccoons are tame and try to pet them or play with them, or even to bring them home. This can be especially dangerous because rabid or otherwise seriously ill raccoons sometimes do appear tame or docile. But a raccoon that is acting tame, or one wandering around in the daytime, most likely is sick. Stay away from it and contact us immediately for prompt raccoon control.
When raccoons get into buildings and nest in secluded places like attics, chimneys, soffits, crawl spaces, and other voids, they can do major damage to the building. In addition, they create a health hazard through their urine, droppings, shed fur, and parasites.
Especially in densely populated areas of Georgia like Athens, Macon, Columbus, Roswell, and Atlanta, raccoon control, trapping, and exclusion are jobs for qualified urban wildlife control professionals.
When raccoons are living in or very near your home, they need to be humanely controlled and excluded for your safety -- and theirs. Raccoons are very strong, powerful animals who can become very aggressive when they feel threatened. An attack by a raccoon can be life-threatening, making raccoon control far too dangerous for untrained individuals.
So be safe. Leave raccoon control to the professional animal control technicians at Rid-A-Critter.
