Moles are common throughout Georgia and can cause great damage to lawns, gold courses, athletic fields, and recreation areas.
Mention the term "urban wildlife" to most people in Atlanta and elsewhere in Georgia, and there's a pretty good chance that moles won't be the first animals that come to mind. Yet despite their small size and secretive habits, mole extermination is one of the most common animal control jobs that we're called upon to perform. Rid-A-Critter provides mole trapping and mole control in Atlanta and throughout North-Central Georgia.
Moles are small, burrowing mammals who reach a length of about six inches as adults. They spend almost all of their time underground, where they subsist mainly on a diet of insects and grubs (immature insect larvae).
In nature, moles are primarily beneficial animals due to their voracious appetite for insects. Basically, they never stop eating; and their insatiable appetite for insects helps maintain nature's delicate balance. They also help aerate the soil by their constant burrowing.
So far, so good, right? Well, yes — unless you happen to have a lawn. Despite their small size, a few moles can wreak havoc on golf courses, athletic fields, playgrounds, parks, and commercial and residential lawns.
You see, like we said earlier, moles have insatiable appetites. They spend almost every waking moment burrowing a few inches below the surface of the soil looking for bugs to eat: and in the process, they can quickly reduce a beautifully manicured lawn into something that looks more like a miniature minefield riddled with burrows and dotted with molehills.
The most important part of mole control is to practice good lawn maintenance, especially in terms of pest control. Because the only reason moles have for burrowing under a particular lawn is to find insects, practicing good insect pest control will go a long way toward preventing and reducing mole problems.
Sometimes, however, this isn't enough; and a more direct approach is needed. That's when it's time to call the experts at Rid-A-Critter. With offices serving Atlanta, Athens, Macon, Alpharetta, Marietta, and all of Northern and Central Georgia, Rid-A-Critter will respond quickly and professionally to mole problems anywhere in our service area.
